Key takeaways

  • Vespucci Beach is a neighbourhood within Vespucci, not the whole Vespucci district. Vespucci Canals should be treated as a separate neighbouring subarea.
  • The northern end blends into southern Del Perro and the Del Perro Pier area The pier is a nearby connection and landmark, but should not automatically be counted as part of Vespucci Beach.
  • The main story mission associated with the area is Repossession, Franklin and Lamar’s early confrontation with the Los Santos Vagos while recovering Simeon’s Bagger.
  • Daddy’s Little Girl uses the beach for Michael and Jimmy’s bicycle sequence, while The Hotel Assassination also has a Vespucci Beach appearance.
  • Story Mode exploration includes a dry-pool Letter Scrap, a health pack near Smoke on the Water, a Spaceship Part in the broader Vespucci area, and several Monkey Mosaic placements documented by completion guides.
  • The beach is primarily a public leisure and scenery space Most named storefronts are decorative rather than functional shops that the player can enter or use.

About this guide

Scope: Grand Theft Auto V Story Mode, with clearly labelled notes for GTA Online where the location differs. Status: Research-based guide. The named-directory sections include entries verified in the available location sources, but Rockstar does not publish a single official catalogue of every decorative shopfront, so minor signage should not be treated as exhaustively documented.

Overview

Vespucci Beach is the beachfront neighbourhood at the heart of western Los Santos. It is not the same thing as the wider Vespucci district, which also includes Vespucci Canals and, depending on the map convention used, Puerto Del Sol. Vespucci Beach itself covers the sandy waterfront, the long promenade, the beachside commercial strip, recreational areas and the dense blocks immediately behind them. The district borders Del Perro to the north, Vespucci Canals to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

It is one of Los Santos’s most recognisable tourist areas, combining a busy public beach with a slightly run-down urban edge. Story missions use the contrast effectively: visitors see exercise equipment, performers, shops and lifeguards, while Franklin’s early work takes him into garages and gang territory only a short distance from the promenade.

Boundaries and hierarchy

Vespucci as the larger district

The game’s wider Vespucci district is divided into:

The in-game GPS and area naming are not perfectly consistent. Vespucci Canals is a clearly identifiable separate neighbourhood, while Puerto Del Sol does not always receive a clean independent boundary on the map. The unnamed blocks immediately inland from the beach are sometimes treated simply as part of Vespucci Beach.

This matters when using guides. A collectible described as being “in Vespucci” may be in the canals, on Palomino Avenue or in the blocks behind the beach rather than on the sand or promenade. The guide below uses Vespucci Beach narrowly, then identifies wider-Vespucci material separately.

The beach neighbourhood

Vespucci Beach runs along the western coast. Its most recognisable internal areas are:

The promenade also continues north towards southern Del Perro, which is why the border can feel visually unclear while travelling on foot or by bicycle. The Vespucci Beach Sidewalk is best understood as a linear public promenade that extends along Vespucci Beach and into southern Del Perro, rather than as a completely separate neighbourhood.

Vespucci as the larger district

Geography and atmosphere

Vespucci Beach is built as a compressed version of Los Angeles’s Venice Beach. The public-facing side is bright and crowded: palm trees, exercise equipment, street performers, stalls, cyclists, skaters and sunbathers occupy the strip between the city and ocean.

Behind that tourist frontage, the mood changes quickly. Narrow lanes, garages, service alleys and low-rise buildings provide the setting for criminal activity and early Franklin missions. This is a deliberate design feature. Vespucci is presented as a tourist district, but not a wealthy or orderly one. It is full of public spectacle, transient visitors and businesses catering to beach culture, while gang activity remains close at hand.

The digital manual describes Vespucci as a beach town associated with tourists, bodybuilders, performers, homeless people and medical marijuana. It also presents the canals as an attempt to imitate European waterside culture in the western United States.

Main roads and routes

The following named roads and streets are verified in location listings or are important for practical navigation:

The exact boundary between Vespucci Beach and Del Perro is more useful to understand visually than by memorising a single road. Follow the promenade north and the beachside environment gradually becomes Del Perro’s waterfront and pier district. Travel east and the low-rise streets lead towards the canals and the denser city blocks.

Beachfront and public areas

The Vespucci Beach Skatepark is also known as Graffiti Beach. It is a recreational skate area with bowls and ramps, and is one of the most useful visual markers when navigating the promenade.

The beach’s floating marina is near the pier-side end of the waterfront. Several Seasharks may be visible there, along with other boats such as a Suntrap, Jetmax or Tropic. These are environmental vehicles and should not be confused with a guaranteed Story Mode acquisition. A Sandking XL can sometimes appear nearby, while Blazer Lifeguards may be parked by huts or moving along the beach.

Buildings and named locations

Floyd’s Apartment is associated with Trevor Philips’s Los Santos storyline and is near the wider Vespucci waterfront environment. It should not be confused with a generally available player safehouse. Its importance is narrative and mission-related rather than as a permanent property for the player.

The Vespucci Beach Police Station is a circular, glass-fronted LSPD facility. It contributes to the district’s visual identity and police presence, but the building is not a general-purpose police interior in the way players might expect from a fully enterable facility. A separate listing identifies the Vespucci police station as an LSPD location in the wider Vespucci district.

Decorative and commercial names

The following names are listed for Vespucci Beach in location directories. Several are storefront signs or environmental businesses rather than functional interiors.

Do not infer a usable service from a sign alone. For example, restaurants, cafés and clothing shops form part of the scenery, but the standard Story Mode shopping system does not allow the player to enter and use every named business. The same caution applies to the radio-station and studio names. The Vespucci Beach directory itself separates named businesses from places of interest, but does not mean that each business is interactive.

Smoke on the Water is the important exception for practical exploration. It is a purchasable medical-marijuana business in Story Mode, although it is not located on the beach’s central sand or promenade. It belongs to the wider Vespucci area and is useful as a landmark when searching the nearby health-pack location.

Residents, visitors and factions

Named characters connected with the area

Not all of these characters are permanent residents of Vespucci Beach.

Franklin and Lamar are connected with the area through Repossession, while Michael and Jimmy visit during Daddy’s Little Girl. Floyd’s apartment becomes part of Trevor’s Los Santos story. Beverly’s connection is through Franklin’s celebrity-paparazzi missions, including the Vespucci-area sequence commonly listed as Paparazzo - The Meltdown.

Ordinary NPCs

Crowd density is generally higher during the day. The promenade is especially useful for observing pedestrian types and ambient activities, while the garages and back streets are more likely to produce confrontations during missions.

Gangs

The Los Santos Vagos are the main gang directly tied to Vespucci Beach’s Story Mode mission content. The gang’s members occupy the garage compound in Repossession, where Franklin and Lamar attempt to recover Simeon’s motorcycle.

The wider area is also associated with the Marabunta Grande, while the Vagos presence is particularly clear in the mission sequence. Gang control is not a permanent territory mechanic in the same way as a dedicated gang-war system, so players should distinguish story encounters from free-roam ownership. The available location reference specifically notes Vagos and Marabunta Grande associations.

Missions and activities

Repossession

Repossession is the defining Story Mode mission for Vespucci Beach. It is Franklin’s early job for Simeon Yetarian and takes place after Franklin and Lamar leave Premium Deluxe Motorsport in Pillbox Hill.

The mission sends them to a shady garage compound beside Vespucci Beach to recover a Bagger from Vagos member Esteban Jimenez. The area then turns into a gunfight and vehicle chase. The mission objectives include travelling to Vespucci Beach, searching garages, taking a weapon if necessary, eliminating the Vagos and returning the bike to the car wash.

Repossession walkthrough

The mission has a six-minute-thirty-second time requirement for Gold, along with Trail Blazer, six headshots and at least 70 per cent accuracy. Shooting the petrol trail can cause the fleeing vehicle to explode and may shorten the chase.

Completing Repossession unlocks further Franklin and Lamar progression, new Ammu-Nation weapons and the Letter Scraps feature.

Daddy’s Little Girl

Michael and Jimmy visit the beach during Daddy’s Little Girl. The playable section involves a bicycle ride and race, making the promenade and beachfront one of the game’s early opportunities to see the district from a non-combat perspective. The Vespucci Beach location reference lists this mission as one of the area’s main Story Mode appearances.

The Hotel Assassination

Vespucci Beach is also listed among the locations used by The Hotel Assassination. It is not the mission’s principal setting, but it is relevant when tracking Lester’s assassination missions and the wider movement through western Los Santos.

GTA Online missions

In Pier Pressure, the beach and pier environment serve as a mission setting. The Diamond Casino Heist can also place a target or henchman in the area. The Los Santos Tuners work may use Vespucci Beach as one of its possible locations.

The modern Online map and business system also adds properties, events and services that do not exist in the same form in Story Mode. Do not use Online property locations or mission interiors as evidence that the equivalent Story Mode building is enterable.

Repossession walkthrough

  1. 01
Start the mission at Simeon’s dealership as Franklin.
  2. 02
Drive to Vespucci Beach with Lamar.
  3. 03
Follow Lamar into the garage area rather than running ahead.
  4. 04
Search the garages until the mission’s confrontation begins.
  5. 05
Use cover around the garage entrances and walls.
  6. 06
For the Gold Medal Trail Blazer objective, shoot the petrol trail left by the fleeing vehicle.
  7. 07
Prioritise headshots if attempting the Gold Medal requirement.
  8. 08
Chase the Bagger and complete the return to the car wash.

Collectibles and useful pickups

Story Mode collectibles

The following placements are documented for Vespucci Beach or its immediate wider area:

The beach’s Letter Scrap is inside one of the dry pools by the skatepark area. It is easy to overlook if approaching from the promenade because the pools sit below the main walking level.

The health pack is not necessarily on the central beach. Search around the small building near the basketball court, northwest of Smoke on the Water. This is an example of why “Vespucci” and “Vespucci Beach” should not be treated as interchangeable labels.

A completion route published for Vespucci collectibles records a Letter Scrap, a Spaceship Part and five Monkey Mosaic placements during a wider Vespucci sweep. Because those mosaics are not all clearly separated by neighbourhood boundary in the available evidence, they are best treated as wider Vespucci collectibles, not all as confirmed Vespucci Beach placements.

Collectible requirements and missability

The main risk is not permanent missability, but progression access.

A complete 100 per cent checklist should be used for collectible tracking rather than relying solely on the area name shown by the GPS. All 50 Letter Scraps are required for the related completion objective and unlock later content connected with the Leonora Johnson mystery.

Law enforcement and hazards

Vespucci Beach has ordinary LSPD coverage and a named police station, but it is not a safe zone. The area is crowded, open and full of traffic, making accidental collisions and pedestrian witnesses common.

The beach is a poor place to start a prolonged firefight in free roam. There is limited hard cover on the open sand, while the police station and main roads encourage rapid law-enforcement arrival. If using the area for a getaway, move inland through the streets rather than attempting to escape along the crowded promenade.

Vehicles and transport

The most reliable way to explore Vespucci Beach is on foot, bicycle or motorcycle. Vehicles are useful for reaching the district but awkward on the sand and pedestrian-heavy walkway.

Environmental and mission-related vehicles associated with the area include:

The floating marina and nearby ramps can provide access to watercraft, but free-roam spawns vary. The available location material describes several boats and Seasharks near the pier, as well as lifeguard vehicles around beach huts.

Suggested exploration route

For a first visit in Story Mode, use this route:

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
Begin at the Del Perro side of the promenade. This gives a clear view of where Del Perro’s waterfront begins to merge with Vespucci Beach.
  2. 02
Walk south along the Vespucci Beach Sidewalk. Check the market frontage, food signs, clothing signs and street performers.
  3. 03
Visit the skatepark. Search the dry pools for the Letter Scrap.
  4. 04
Continue past Muscle Sands. Observe the outdoor gym and the bodybuilder NPCs.
  5. 05
Check the lifeguard huts and beach vehicles. Look for Blazer Lifeguards, but treat them as variable ambient spawns.
  6. 06
Move inland to the basketball court and small buildings. Search for the health pack near the Smoke on the Water side of the area.
  7. 07
Continue east towards Vespucci Canals. Stop once the canals and their residential waterways become the dominant environment.
  8. 08
Return north towards the pier and marina. This is the best place to check boats and water-ramp scenery.

Lore, inspiration and series history

Vespucci Beach is based on Venice Beach, Los Angeles. Its skatepark, exercise culture, promenade stalls, street performers and beachside eccentricity all draw from that setting. The wider district’s canals also reference Venice’s artificial waterways.

The area’s name comes from Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer. Its earlier series counterpart is Verona Beach in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. GTA IV also used the name Verona Beach in related references, while Grand Theft Auto V established Vespucci Beach as the main name for the location.

This distinction is useful when comparing games. Verona Beach belongs to the earlier continuity and should not be treated as an alternate Story Mode name for the GTA V neighbourhood, even though the locations fulfil a similar coastal-tourist role.
